TIBCO'S New General Interface Test Automation Kit Provides a Free, Comprehensive Solution for Quality Assurance Testing

By: AJAXWorld News Desk
Apr. 2, 2007 06:15 PM

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 2 -- TIBCO Software Inc. today announced that it has open sourced a high-performance test tool -- TIBCO General Interface(TM) Test Automation Kit (GITAK) -- to free developers from the labor-intensive process of quality assurance (QA) testing of enterprise asynchronous communications, JavaScript, and XML (AJAX) components and Rich Internet Applications (RIAs).

TIBCO is the first company to offer a comprehensive suite of proven enterprise-class AJAX RIA libraries, visual tools, and automated QA test cases and run scenarios. This allows developers and end users to more easily combine and leverage the powerful capabilities of a service-oriented architecture (SOA) with RIA technology.

TIBCO GITAK, which extends the popular Selenium Core test tool for Web applications, runs directly in a browser with your TIBCO General Interface powered AJAX application. TIBCO GITAK provides a fully automated solution that enables companies to create automated test cases and run scenarios to validate an application is performing as it should. Once a library of test cases has been built, the AJAX applications and changes to them can be tested with the push of a button, reducing the time and money required for quality assurance significantly.

"JavaScript and AJAX applications have been inherently difficult to debug," said Kevin Hakman, director, General Interface product marketing, TIBCO. "As the first open source product on the market today, TIBCO GITAK offers a free, reliable solution to automating application testing. Furthermore, our product tests the entire application versus merely testing the application components as independent units to detect errors that are often not exposed until runtime. This improves productivity by identifying issues at an earlier stage in the software development lifecycle."

TIBCO General Interface Test Automation Kit (GITAK) is now general available for download at http://developer.tibco.com/

Openbravo and BitRock Partner to Deliver Easy to Install Open Source ERP

Openbravo and BitRock Partner to Deliver Easy to Install Open Source ERP

Press release

Openbravo open source ERP software can now be installed in minutes.

San Francisco, CA, March 30, 2007 -- Openbravo, provider of the leading professional web-based open source enterprise management solution for small and midsize enterprises, announced today that it has partnered with BitRock to deliver an easy to use installer that allows new users to be up with a complete Openbravo ERP system in just minutes. The installation wizard automates the deployment process, so even inexperienced users can quickly install Openbravo.

Enterprise management (ERP) software is known for being highly complex and costly to implement, which keeps traditional solutions out of reach of most small to medium sized enterprises. Openbravo believes that "each company, regardless of its size, has the right to have their own ERP - owned by the company, adapted to its needs and to its budget." By partnering with BitRock, Openbravo has made its software even more accessible to SMEs, who may not have the IT resources necessary to even evaluate other solutions.

As with other solutions, Openbravo requires additional software, such as a database and web server. The Openbravo installer allows users to choose between hooking up to an existing PostgreSQL or Oracle 10g database and then automatically connects Openbravo to the chosen database and an existing Tomcat installation. This offers users the flexibility of using software already installed on their system, while still providing a fast, user-friendly installation process.

"Our goal is to make open source software easier to install, configure and update," said Erica Brescia, Vice President of Business Development for BitRock. "New Openbravo users can now install a robust ERP system with just a few clicks of the mouse - a near-impossible proposition with other ERP solutions. In addition to providing a streamlined deployment process, BitRock technology also makes it fast and easy to update the software once it is installed."

"BitRock's services have helped us to provide Openbravo in an easy to install package, virtually eliminating barriers. The automated installation process reduces installation-related support requests and costs. The BitRock team has a wide range of experience and the high quality service they provide was a key element in choosing to work with them." said Ismael Ciordia, CTO of Openbravo.

The new installers can be download from the Openbravo download section at Sourceforge.

There is also a Quick installation guide available for the installers.

Sixty new open source software products added to Certified Library

BROOMFIELD, Colo., April 2, 2007 -- OpenLogic, Inc., a provider
of enterprise open source solutions encompassing hundreds of open source
packages, today announced OpenLogic Enterprise 4.4, with new Enterprise
Policy Management functionality designed to help enterprises proactively
control the use of open source within their organization. OpenLogic has
also added more than 60 new open source products to the OpenLogic Certified
Library.

OpenLogic Enterprise 4.4 provides improved enterprise-wide management
of open source policies across the enterprise. The new functionality
includes:
-- Centralized policy management: Enables legal and compliance staff to
define and enforce open source policies by open source package,
license, user, group or system.
-- Proactive filtering: Based on policies enterprises can filter what open
source packages individual users can see and can install from the
OpenLogic Certified Library.
-- Tailored group policies: Enterprises can apply specific policies to a
team of developers working on a particular application.
"Enterprises are very concerned about ensuring compliance with open
source policies and open source licenses," said Steven Grandchamp, CEO of
OpenLogic. "This requires diligent governance of the usage of open source
packages. OpenLogic Enterprise 4.4 provides a proactive approach to open
source governance by enforcing policies at the point when IT and developers
uptake open source software."
Having passed OpenLogic's rigorous 42-point certification process, more
than 60 new open source software packages are included in version 4.4
including Jaxen, Jaxp, JavaGen Ant Modules (JAM), Java Data Objects (JDO)
and nHibernate. The OpenLogic Enterprise Certified Library now contains
more than 260 certified open source packages.
Earlier in March, OpenLogic announced the addition of more than 60
Solaris open source products to its certified open source library.
OpenLogic Enterprise users can now access and manage open source products
for Solaris 10 as well as Linux and Windows.
"The key to open source adoption is assurance that the solutions are
legitimate alternatives to their proprietary counterparts -- with the same
services and guarantees that large enterprises are accustomed to," said
Andrew Aitken, managing partner of Olliance Group. "OpenLogic Enterprise
augments the integrity of a large swath of open source projects, helping
manage corporate open source policies, automating open source software
configuration and integration across multiple platforms, and providing a
level of universal support you'd expect from large legacy vendors."
About OpenLogic
